OhioElectric bicycle classes, age, helmets, and trails
Ohio defines three e-bike classes up to 750 watts. Class 1 and 2 may use bicycle/shared-use paths unless locally or state-prohibited; Class 3 is generally limited to paths adjacent to a highway or expressly authorized. All classes are barred from specified natural-surface trails without permission. Class 3 operator minimum age is 16 and all Class 3 riders/passengers must wear helmets.

MentorCitywide e-bike helmet, passenger, and passing-warning rules
Mentor requires helmets for all e-bike operators. Passengers are allowed only when the e-bike was designed and equipped by its original manufacturer for a passenger. Operators must give an audible warning before passing pedestrians on sidewalks or shared paths. The City says the three ordinances passed and took effect immediately on September 15, 2026; other existing city operating rules remain in force.
