Electric bicycle classes, sidewalk restriction, and path access

Illinois defines three classes up to 750 watts. E-bikes generally have bicycle rights on roads and bike lanes; Class 1 and 2 may use paths unless locally prohibited. State law prohibits e-bike operation on sidewalks. Operators under 16 may not operate Class 3 except as passengers; Class 3 bikes need a speedometer. Westmont

E-bike sidewalk, roadway, age, and equipment restrictions

The City code bars all low-speed e-bikes from sidewalks and permits them on streets, roads, and alleys. Class 3 operators must be at least 16; Class 3 e-bikes require a speedometer and class label. The Village Board passed the ordinance in February 2026; the City excerpt did not identify its ordinance number or effective date.
